Coronaviurs Statement

CJSA Coronavirus Statement

Effective Friday, March 13, 2020, Connecticut Junior Soccer Association suspended all affiliated and sanctioned soccer activities statewide through April 15th due to the evolving COVID-19 situation. For our member organizations (towns, clubs and leagues) this includes, but is not limited to: all games, practices, clinics, training, ODP, tournaments, in-person meetings and Coaching Education Courses.

Avon Soccer Club will continue to monitor the situation closely and look to CJSA for guidance as additional decisions are made.  Suspension of activities means that teams are not permitted to hold practices of any sort, whether formal or informal, in order to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

Please remember that ASC's primary goal during these uncertain times is to maintain the health and well-being of our players, coaches and referees.  Any future decisions made by the Club, including whether or not to suspend the spring season, will be made with this goal at the forefront.  Once a final decsion about the season has been made, we will immediately notify all involved.

We appreciate your patience as we adjust to this new reality and are confident that, as a community, we will emerge from this experience stronger and more resilient - qualities that will tranfer well to the soccer field!

Become a Soccer Referee!

Become a soccer referee today!

Dear players, parents, coaches and soccer fans,

Each year we need to recruit and train new soccer referees to ensure that all games have a full crew of certified referees assigned. Becoming a refereeing is a way to give back to the beautiful game, spend time outdoors with family & friends and keep fit. For teenagers, it is also a great "first job" that offers flexible hours and pay that increases with the level of games being officiated. New referee candidates must be at least 13 years old in order to become certified.

The Connecticut State Referee Program (CSRP) oversees the training of all new "grassroots" referees in the state using a combination of approx. 6 hours of online learning and a 5 hour in-class session.. If you are over 18 years old, a background check and an additional online SafeSport training module are also required to be completed.

The following YouTube video explains the basics of registering as a referee candidate and the steps involved to become certified: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djJlje-6M-c

A complete list of new referee in-class clinic dates and locations can be found at: https://www.ctreferee.net/calendar/

There are in-class sessions scheduled over the coming weeks in West Hartford (3/15), Simsbury (3/15), Newington (3/21), Bloomfield (3/22) and West Hartford (3/28), but availability may be limited, so plan to register early.

The cost of the training program is $104.95 and detailed instructions can be found on the CSRP homepage https://ctreferee.net/

Referee uniform starter kits are available for order online from the US Soccer's supplier Official Sports International. Depending on the options you choose, the kits range from $37.55 to $60.50. Fore details see: https://officialsports.com/off-field-apparel/starter-kits/

If you have any questions about becoming a referee, please feel free to reach out to me via e-mail to   or by calling my cell 860-308-6819.

Thanks
